Excel Add-in
Budget Review in Excel
Budget Review brings your Procore budget into Excel so finance and project teams can analyze it the way they already work. Pull the live budget, build whatever views your team needs, and compare against prior snapshots without re-keying anything.
Note
Early access
Budget Review runs in the Sandspit Excel add-in. If you haven't installed it yet, see Install the Excel Add-in.
What it does
Procore is the system of record for your budget. The analysis and review work, the variance cuts each role wants to see, usually happens in spreadsheets. Budget Review connects the two so the numbers in Excel stay tied to Procore instead of being a stale copy-paste.
In this version, Budget Review focuses on getting Procore budget data into Excel for review and comparison:
- Pull the current budget for a project and budget view into a worksheet
- Build pivot tables, charts, and custom variance views on top of the pulled rows
- Pull a prior Procore budget snapshot and compare it side by side
- Create a new ad hoc budget snapshot in Procore from the task pane
Note
Read and compare
This version reads budget data from Procore and creates snapshots. It does not push edited budget values back to Procore. Budget changes still happen in Procore; Sandspit keeps your Excel analysis in sync with them.
Prerequisites
- The Sandspit Excel add-in installed and signed in. See Install the Excel Add-in
- A Procore project with a budget configured
- Budget read access in Procore for that project. Creating snapshots requires budget write access
Pull the current budget
- Open the Sandspit task pane and select your Procore project
- Choose the budget view you want to pull
- Pull the current budget rows into the Budget sheet
Sandspit preserves the Procore row identifiers and budget view metadata behind the scenes, so a pulled budget stays tied to its source in Procore.
Build your reporting
Once the budget is in the sheet, it's just Excel. Build the cut each role needs from the same source rows:
- The PM's working view
- The PE's roll-up
- The CFO's month-end snapshot
Same budget data, different reports. Because the rows came from Procore, you can refresh them rather than rebuilding the workbook each month.
Compare against a snapshot
Procore budget snapshots capture the budget at a point in time. Budget Review lets you bring one into Excel to compare against the current numbers.
- View the available Procore budget snapshots for the project in the task pane
- Pull a prior snapshot into the Snapshot sheet
- Compare the current budget against the snapshot to see what moved
- Optionally create a new ad hoc snapshot in Procore from the task pane to mark the current state
Refresh
When the budget changes in Procore, refresh the pull to bring the latest numbers into your workbook. Your pivot tables, charts, and variance views update against the refreshed data, so the analysis your team built keeps working.
